The month of April is such a powerful harbinger of spring ... there is, here in Colorado, still the very real chance of a big snow, the skies heavy with rain-laden, huge snow flakes; but also, the first flowers of spring emerge from the frozen ground, giddy with color and frivolity under the warming sun. In this painting, I attempt to capture the somber nature of the departing winter's monochromatic grays pierced by the strange insanity of the early-spring flowers. Let your mind roam to that optimistic time of the year when color and light pierce the chill of winter.
